Is Chichen Itza Open?
Chichen Itza is an archaeological site handle by the National Institute of Anthropology and History. This is one of the most important cultural sites in Mexico, and each year receives millions of visitors. It is also valuable because it is one of the 7 wonders of the world.
It would be until August when archaeological sites in the country can be reopened for tourists. This was announced by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
The federal agency does not consider it feasible that the cultural points of interest and tourist sites can resume activities in the near future, including museums and archaeological zones run by this institution. According to the state traffic light implemented by the authorities due to COVID-19, cultural and archeological sites will be the last to open.
New measures in Cultural and Archaeological sites
The federal agency indicated that the reactivation process will be according to the standards established by the health authorities. All of them based on the guidelines established in the traffic light. Cultural sites, archaeological zones, parks, and museums will return in the last stage of the pandemic.
The INAH must make adjustments, such acquire equipment and materials. The aim is to carry out these new sanitary measures for the preventive care of COVID-19 infections.
In Yucatan, the INAH is in charge of 22 tourist spots ( archaeological zones and museums) that must integrate health protocols for workers and visitors, the adaptation of spaces and control mechanisms to cover the norms established by the sanitary guidelines, starting from of health contingency and the “new normal”.
As you can see we can’t visit Chichen Itza at the moment, we would like to recommend a digital tour around some Mayan Ruins. Hoping that we return to this world wonder as soon as possible with all the hygienic measures. Although we do not have a certain day, we will announce the reopening in our social media.
